What GOLD1 actually is

A plain description of the instrument: what it holds and how it pays out. Tracks is the index or asset it follows, Run by is the fund house or trust manager, Listed is when it started trading on the exchange.

An exchange-traded fund holds a basket of assets and trades on the exchange like a single share. Buying one unit gets you a slice of everything it holds, so you get the spread of the whole basket without buying each piece yourself. Its price follows the value of what it holds, and you buy and sell it through any broker during market hours at whatever price it is trading at.

Most equity ETFs reinvest the dividends their holdings pay, so those show up in the unit price rather than as cash to you. The returns below are price only.

What it has returned

The change in the unit price over each window, ending at the latest close. Price only: a dividend or distribution paid out in cash is not in these figures, so a fund that pays out will look lower here than what a holder actually received.

Price return only, so anything paid out as dividend or distribution is not counted here. A dash means this one has not been listed long enough to have that history rather than that it went nowhere.

Year by year

The price return in each calendar year, newest at the top. Bars run right from the centre line for a gain and left for a loss. Each year starts from the previous year's close, so the years compound back to the total. A star marks a year it was not listed for in full.

How bumpy the ride is

Swing is volatility: how far the price typically moves over a year, from its daily moves. Worst fall is the maximum drawdown - the biggest drop from any high to the lowest point after it - and It bottomed is the date of that low. A higher swing means a rougher ride, not a better or worse fund.

Swing is how much the price typically moves in a year. Worst fall is the biggest drop from a high to the low that followed it, which is what a holder who bought at the wrong moment actually lived through.

How easily it trades

Liquidity over the last year. Units a day is the average traded, Typical day is the median rupee value traded, Delivered is the share of trading where the buyer kept the units, and Days it traded shows how many sessions saw any trade at all. Thin trading usually means a wider gap between buy and sell prices.

Over the last year of trading. A thinly traded fund is expensive to get in and out of however good the thing it tracks, so this is worth a look before the returns are.
