What Hero MotoCorp Limited does
A short, human-reviewed summary of the business, written from public sources. Background, not analysis, and not updated intraday.
business summary
Hero MotoCorp began in 1984 as Hero Honda Motors, a joint venture between India's Hero Group and Japan's Honda; the Munjal family bought out Honda's 26% stake in early 2011 but only formally renamed the company Hero MotoCorp that July. It calls itself the world's largest two-wheeler maker by volume as a single standalone company, though Honda's global volume, overseas units included, is several times larger. Since 2020 it has licensed and built Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

2What it sells
Makes motorcycles and scooters across mass-market brands such as Splendor, HF Deluxe and Passion, premium models under Xtreme and Xpulse, and electric two-wheelers under its Vida brand; through its Harley-Davidson license it also builds and sells Harley-branded motorcycles such as the X440 from its Neemrana plant.
3
3Who buys it
The bulk of sales are mass-market commuter motorcycles bought by individual retail riders across rural and urban India, with a growing export presence in Africa, Latin America and South Asia; Vida electric scooters and Harley-Davidson models target a smaller, higher-spending urban and premium-lifestyle customer base.
4
4How it earns
Revenue is driven overwhelmingly by high-volume, lower-margin commuter motorcycle sales in India, the core strength Hero built during its Honda-era joint venture; the Harley-Davidson license adds fee and margin income from premium bikes without equity exposure, while the fast-growing Vida electric business is a newer, still smaller contributor as the company expands EV capacity.

The cash it actually made
Profit is an accounting figure; cash flow is what moved. Free cash flow is the cash from running the business less what was spent on plant and equipment, so it is what was left over to pay down debt or return to shareholders.

Against its sector
Where this stock sits within its own sector on each measure. The marker is its position in the peer group and the notch is the sector median. A position is a fact about the cohort, not a view on the stock.
Median rather than average, so one loss-making or one very expensive peer cannot drag the reference. Valuation is shown without a colour verdict: a higher multiple can mean expensive, or faster growth expected, and only you can decide which.
