What TVS Motor Company Limited does
A short, human-reviewed summary of the business, written from public sources. Background, not analysis, and not updated intraday.
business summary

TVS Motor is controlled by the Chennai-based TVS Group through TVS Holdings Limited (renamed from Sundaram-Clayton in 2023), which holds just over 50% of the company; the wider TVS family conglomerate runs more than 50 businesses beyond two-wheelers. Since 2013 it has co-developed sub-500cc motorcycles with Germany's BMW Motorrad, a partnership that has produced over 200,000 units and recently expanded into electric-vehicle platforms, and it has wholly owned Britain's Norton Motorcycles since 2020.

2What it sells

Makes motorcycles, scooters and mopeds across brands including Apache, Ronin, Raider and Jupiter, electric two-wheelers under the iQube and TVS X names, and three-wheelers; it also owns British marque Norton Motorcycles and, through the BMW tie-up, helps engineer and build BMW Motorrad's smaller-displacement motorcycles.

3
3Who buys it

Domestic retail riders across India buy most of its scooters, motorcycles and mopeds, and it also exports two- and three-wheelers to around 80 countries; the BMW Motorrad partnership supplies motorcycles built to BMW's specification for BMW's own global dealer network rather than for TVS's own retail customers.

4
4How it earns

Income comes mainly from high-volume domestic sales of mass-market two-wheelers plus exports, supplemented by contract-manufacturing revenue from building motorcycles for BMW Motorrad, whose Hosur plant reportedly supplies around a tenth of BMW Motorrad's global volumes, and by its wholly owned Norton and electric-vehicle businesses, which are smaller but higher-growth.

The cash it actually made
Profit is an accounting figure; cash flow is what moved. Free cash flow is the cash from running the business less what was spent on plant and equipment, so it is what was left over to pay down debt or return to shareholders.
