What Torrent Pharmaceuticals does
A short, human-reviewed summary of the business, written from public sources. Background, not analysis, and not updated intraday.
business summary

Unlike many Indian pharma exporters, Torrent earns most of its profit from branded, doctor-prescribed drugs sold inside India rather than commodity generics abroad, giving it some of the sector's highest margins. In July 2026 it completed its merger with rival J B Chemicals, agreed with KKR in 2025, adding cardiology brands and CDMO capability, and it was an early mover in India's generic semaglutide market.

1
1Sector

Pharmaceuticals - Branded Generics & Chronic Therapy

2
2What it sells

Branded generic formulations in cardiovascular, central nervous system, gastro-intestinal, diabetes, pain management, gynaecology and dermatology, sold mainly in India and Brazil, plus a growing US generics business.

3
3Who buys it

Mostly retail patients in India buying through pharmacies on a doctor's prescription, plus growing patient bases in Brazil and the US, with new markets like ophthalmology added through the JB Chemicals deal.

4
4How it earns

Builds brand loyalty with doctors so patients keep buying the same drug by name rather than switching to the cheapest equivalent, which supports higher margins than plain generics. Profit depends on continued India brand strength, new chronic-therapy launches, and how well the large JB Chemicals acquisition integrates.

The cash it actually made
Profit is an accounting figure; cash flow is what moved. Free cash flow is the cash from running the business less what was spent on plant and equipment, so it is what was left over to pay down debt or return to shareholders.
